Pinokkio begins, like any child, as a blank slate – in her case as an uncarved block of wood. But she has only just been given legs when she abandons her father Geppetto and rushes headlong into one mishap after another.

Mrs Fox, Mr Cat and Mr Badger become her friends and have wonderful, contagious stories. But can she trust these friends? Again and again she must choose: have fun and live a lazy life or be sensible and work hard? Serve up a beautiful story or tell the ugly truth? From her friends, Pinocchio learns the advantages of lying, until she realises that she herself is also being fooled.
