What if war does not end with the signing of peace? In ravensbrück, theatre-maker Stefanie Claes tells a personal and gripping family story without speaking a single word.

With pencil, paint, paper, scissors and light, she brings to life the story of her grandmother Aline – a woman who was imprisoned for a year in the Ravensbrück concentration camp during the Second World War. That period marked not only her life, but also that of her daughter and granddaughter.

Claes transforms the stage into an intimate, visual space in which three generations of women are palpably present. She draws, erases, cuts and snips – with rare precision and intensity. In these carefully composed images, you feel the trauma that transcends generations.

ravensbrück is a silent yet poignant performance about what war does to a person, and how memories settle into everyday life. An intense theatre experience for adults and children aged 10 and over – small, fragile and unimaginably powerful.

  • ravensbrück teaches us much about the personal consequences of ethnic cleansing and WWII. For educational reasons, the performance is also accessible to teenagers and young people accompanied by an adult.

This performance has no interval.
