Kanon Pokajanen

Verkoop v.a. 23 May 12:00 uur
A deeply faithful plea for forgiveness, captured in some of the most beautiful choral music. That is Arvo Pärt’s Kanon Pokajanen. Even for non‑believers, the work becomes a mesmerizing meditation of nearly an hour and a half. After the highly successful performance by Cappella Amsterdam a few years ago, the Latvian Radio Choir now brings this masterpiece to the stage. It is hard to come closer to the world of Pärt.
Pärt completed Kanon Pokajanen in 1997 for the 750th anniversary of Cologne Cathedral. He based it on the complete penitential canon from the Eastern Orthodox liturgy. Parts of this hymn had already appeared in earlier compositions, but setting the full text proved to be an “extremely enriching experience” for the composer. It does not get more spiritual than Kanon Pokajanen.

Whether this performance has an interval is not yet known.
