De Tafel van Martinus is the talk show on current research at Tilburg University. Bring a friend and meet other curious minds in the relaxed atmosphere of the Studio.

Scientists take a seat at the table for an interview, give a mini lecture or share their thoughts in a column. These contributions are interspersed with musical talent from the Fontys Academy of the Arts and visual commentary by illustrator Jeroen de Leijer. The evening is hosted by Richard Engelfriet.

This time, our guests are:

  • Religious studies scholars Caroline Vander Stichele and Deborah de Koning on ‘Belief in times of rising seas’.
  • Philosopher Ruud Welten on an ‘Explosion of Language’: provocation as a literary style.
  • Legal scholar Ariane Hendriks on recognising and stopping intimate terror.
  • PhD candidate Imke Spapens give a pitch on how we express uncertainty, not only with words, but also – and above all – with our facial expressions and voices.
  • Musical interlude by Fontys talent, singer-songwriter Moon Jacky Jane.

De Tafel van Martinus is named after Martinus Cobbenhagen (1893–1954), one of the founders of Tilburg University. Central to his vision of a university was both understanding society and contributing to it.
