Regarde bien

Verkoop v.a. 23 May 12:00 uur
In the 1970s, singer and composer Jacques Brel worked on his final album Les Marquises on the paradise island of Hiva Oa in French Polynesia. At the same time, French nuclear tests elsewhere in the region were devastating nature and local communities, and the French secret service blew up the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior. The message: ‘regarde bien’. Look closely.

In the music theatre production Regarde bien, Hein van der Heijden and music ensemble SeaSession give a new dimension to Brel’s final album. The chansons take on an ambiguous meaning. Destruction and escape come together. A mesmerising and confronting story about a lesser‑known chapter of history.

Director Ola Mafaalani weaves together personal tributes, political history and activism. Beneath a layer of poetry, a musical and visual spectacle unfolds. Regarde bien is a compelling performance that draws you in from beginning to end, revealing the powerful political message behind it.
