cabaret & comedy
Heiden
Jeroen Leenders returns to our Studio with his new show, Heiden. Following the success of Laatste Kaartjes, the Flemish comedian is once again touring theatres with brand-new material. Don’t expect a traditional comedy show, but rather an evening full of sharp observations, philosophical digressions and the characteristic anarchy with which Leenders has earned a loyal cult following.
My freedom lies in the fact that
I do not identify with the things I think.
I do not worry when new ideas enter my mind.
I am not afraid that they will take hold of me and change me.
My mind is a laboratory.
A closed space where ideas are allowed to be themselves,
where they can run about as they please
without being approved or rejected.
I simply linger in their presence.
Hang about a bit.
Ask a few questions.
Observe them.
See what they bring.
And what their limitations are.
How hilarious it is when they collide at full speed
and tumble over one another, laughing.
But this space is secret.
I keep it to myself.
Ideas are like bacteria.
Some make you stronger.
Others make you ill.
Rarely are you confused with your illness.
But ideas are different:
often, to the world, you are equated with the things you think.
If they’re right,
then you’re right.
Or wrong,
then you’re wrong.
And in my case,
confused.
That’s why I’m
strange,
suspicious,
disturbing.
I don’t belong here.
