Not only goods travelled by ship to the ports around the Mediterranean — ancient musical traditions travelled with them too. Countries such as Greece, Italy and Spain may be very different, yet they come together in their music, each with its own distinctive character. The Flamenco Biennale and the Cello Biennale present this rich diversity in La Lyra del Mar.

Apollo and Dionysus meet in this musical journey. The music revolves around the lyra, the pear‑shaped Cretan bowed instrument. With its obsessive rhythms, it invites a celebration of strings, stories and perhaps even a little dancing.

In La Lyra del Mar, musicians from Italian, Greek and Spanish backgrounds perform together. Cellist Giovanni Sollima has appeared in the Concertzaal Tilburg three times before. Come and experience an evening filled with international melodies.
