CHORWERK RUHR & Florian Helgath
SHE
You hear voices that span centuries and meet one another today. In SHE, CHORWERK RUHR reveals how female composers have shaped music history, from Hildegard von Bingen to Caroline Shaw.
At the centre is Shaw’s Partita for 8 Voices. Eight singers build sound from breath and language. You hear how individual elements gradually come together into a whole that constantly changes colour. This idea runs throughout the entire evening. Composers from different periods connect and open up new perspectives.
From medieval mysticism to romantic melancholy and contemporary strength: each voice tells its own story. You hear longing, loss and resilience. And you notice how these themes still resonate today.
CHORWERK RUHR sings with precision and boldness. Under the direction of Florian Helgath, a programme emerges that continues to evolve. What begins as separate lines grows into a musical world in which everything becomes interconnected.
