Chaos in de Westerse wereld
Historian Beatrice de Graaf delves into a time in which political relations are shifting and democratic rules of the game are under pressure. In America the political landscape is changing profoundly, while in Europe voices can also be heard that argue for more power and less counterbalance. At the same time world leaders show how quickly influence and power can shift.
During this theatre evening De Graaf draws connections between now and then. She shows where the present resembles earlier periods in history, and where it unfolds differently. You hear how ideas emerge and sometimes derail, and what that means for today’s world.
With sharp analyses and clear stories she takes you along past turning points in democracy. From the nineteenth century to the 1930s, and back to today. You look differently at the news, at political choices and at the role you play in them.
A topical evening in the Schouwburg that makes you reflect on the time you live in.
Whether this performance has an interval is not yet known.
