Byzantium
Byzantium is a restaurant named after the largest and most prosperous city of the Old World. Once its door was worn down by crowds, but now its expiry date has passed. Think old pans, blunt knives and a cook with hair loss stirring the soup. An owner who fries her own liver and ancient waiters on an oxygen tank.
This is a performance about misguided nostalgia, horror‑like bizarre culinary situations, but despite everything also mouth‑watering desires.
The founding father of lowland horror theatre, director Stef Lernous, has a fascination for the world behind the world. His fearless, unique and recognisable style is also visible in this performance. Stef alternates wordless carnivalesque scenes with text and musical theatre. He designs exuberant costumes, makeup and masks, and is seen as the founding father of lowland horror theatre.
Whether this performance has an interval is not yet known.
